About YHPL Geek Out

Welcome to YHPL Geek Out!

We aim to be your home gaming convention in Johnson City, NY.

Broome County is full of gamers. Our hope is to provide a public convention time and space in which longer games can get played. The "game convention" is a wonderful break from reality, a time set aside to do nothing but play games. We here at YHPL support this sort of "escapism" and are proud to be hosting the 1st ever YHPL Geek Out in 2025.

Our inaugaral event will be June 28th from 10am to 8pm. There will be open gaming the entire day. There will also be scheduled events, which we're using tabletop.events for.

Attending YHPL Geek Out is completely free, but attending requires registration. There are 3 ways to register for YHPL Geek Out.

1. Register on tabletop.events by clicking on the 'buy badges' button in the right sidebar. It's free. You just need to provide your name and an email address after registering to use the site. This option is Highly Encouraged if you want to register for any of the scheduled RPG events. There may be limited space availability on the day of the con, but don't count on it. Reserve your space now. After you have a badge, you may sign up for scheduled events by registering for a 'ticket' for the event that you are intending to attend.
2. Register by calling the library at 607-797-4816. Let us know you're coming and give us your name and email address. All open gaming areas will be available to you.
3. Unless we get so many pre-registrations that we're at max capacity, we will be accepting same day walk-in registrations on 6/28. You will need to provide your name and email address and we'll give you a badge. All open gaming areas will be available to you.

What's happening at YHPL Geek Out?

• Board & Card Games - open gaming all day long taught by friendly and experienced volunteers. Don't feel like learning something new? Bring your old favorites and bring some friends (or meet new friends). Use our abundant table space for those long "table hog" games that you've been meaning to get played.
• RPGs - volunteers will be running several role-playing games. Sign up on tabletop.events.
• An Escape Room - designed by one of YHPL's librarians! To sign up for an escape room session, register on tabletop.events (see above) or call the library.
• Live Action Role-Playing - hosted by local talent from Carcosa Creations
• 368 Chickens - we're going to have an all-day 368 Chickens Contest. The person who frees the most chickens wins a prize!
• Children's Activities - we'll have some fun games and activities programmed for younger gamers with their caregivers. Children/Families are also welcome upstairs all day in the open gaming area. All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
• Food! - the Friends of Your Home Public Library will be arranging for a food truck (and an ice cream truck!) to be present during the afternoon and they will have snacks available to purchase for a small fee.
